There are many Christian denominations and almost all of them have their own traditions and customs. On top
of that there are also the religious communities which call themselves Christian, but deviate from the basic teachings of
Christianity. As this can be very confusing for people who are not directly involved in this, I have summarized the things
which unite Christians of all denominations.
1 The Trinity
God exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Therefore in every Christian
church baptism is performed "In the Name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit", regardless of the form the baptism ceremony may have.
2 Crucifixion and Resurrection
The crucifixion and the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ are other central issues
of Christian teaching.
3 The Bible
The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God. There are neither other scriptures nor
announcements by particular persons which have the same significance.
4 Grace
Salvation happens only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. Nobody can earn
salvation
with works or receive it through rituals.
5 The various Churches
No Christian church or denomination claims to be the "only true one". Even though not every church accepts
the traditions or customs of all others, none of them would claim that only their traditions are the right ones and therefore
only their members or followers could be saved.
